Chiroptera

Chiroptera is an order of mammals that includes the majority of bat species. They are the only mammals capable of sustained flight and are highly adapted to aerial locomotion. Significant among these adaptations are their membranous wings, lightweight bodies, and echolocation, which allows them to navigate in the dark. Bats play an important role in the environment by controlling insect populations and pollinating plants. They are also culturally significant, appearing in stories and rituals of many cultures around the world.
