Indexing and Preservation
Identifiers, harvestable metadata and long-term preservation each do a different job for a published article. They are set out separately below so that each can be read for what it is.

Journal identifiers
What identifies this journal and its articles, and where those identifiers are held.
- ISSN
- 2374-9431, registered for Journal of Bioinformatics and Diabetes.
- DOI prefix
- 10.14302, the publisher’s Crossref prefix.
- Crossref journal record
- The journal is registered with Crossref under ISSN 2374-9431, with Open Access Pub as the depositing publisher.
- Article DOIs
- DOIs are registered for published articles and are shown with each record in the Archive. Where a DOI has not completed registration, the identifier is shown as recorded and is not presented as a working link.
A registered DOI gives an article a permanent address: it can be cited, resolved and tracked wherever it is referenced. Selection by a subject database is a separate process.
Metadata, harvesting and discovery
What the publisher publishes about each article, and who can collect it.
- OAI-PMH
- The publisher operates an OAI-PMH repository at openaccesspub.org/oai, open to any harvester, with records from 2012 onward.
- Article metadata
- Each article page carries structured citation metadata — title, authors, affiliations, journal, ISSN, volume, issue, pages, publication date, DOI and links to the full text — in the form search services read.
- Full text
- Every article is open access in HTML and PDF, with no registration or payment, so it can be read and crawled by anyone.
- What this supports
- Harvestable metadata and open full text are what a discovery service needs in order to find, describe and link an article. Each service then applies its own criteria and schedule when it builds its collection.

What keeps the record available, and the route for funder-mandated deposit.
Digital preservation
This journal’s content is committed to Portico, a not-for-profit digital-preservation archive run by ITHAKA (the organization behind JSTOR). As articles are deposited they enter Portico’s permanent archive, so the scholarly record stays available for the long term — even if a title one day ceases to publish.
PubMed Central deposit
Eligible NIH-funded manuscripts may be deposited individually in PubMed Central through the NIH Manuscript Submission System (NIHMS).
NIHMS is a route for the individual manuscript, opened by the author’s funding mandate. It operates at the level of the article rather than the journal.
