Submit your research to JWC
Journal of Weather Changes welcomes submissions throughout the year from researchers working across weather and atmospheric science.
Regular submissions are accepted throughout the year. A manuscript enters editorial screening as soon as it arrives, and no submission window has to be waited for.
The subjects below indicate where the journal is reading. They describe the remit rather than restrict it: a manuscript that answers one of the journal’s questions with proportionate evidence is welcome whether or not it matches a heading.

Subjects invited
Four groupings, each open to observational, modeling, methodological and applied work.

Atmospheric processes
Synoptic and mesoscale meteorology, convection and fronts, boundary-layer and surface exchange, cloud and precipitation physics, radiation, aerosols and composition.

Variability and change
Weather variability from days to decades, modes of variability, long-term records and reconstruction, and the atmospheric side of climate questions.

Observation and prediction
Instruments and observing networks, radar and satellite remote sensing, reanalysis, numerical prediction, data assimilation, ensembles and forecast verification.

Extremes and consequences
Storms, floods, drought, heat and wildfire weather; hydrology, agriculture, energy and infrastructure; early warning, preparedness and adaptation.
Article types
Accepted article types
The journal considers seven article types for submission.
Research Article
Original observational, experimental, modeling or impact research.
Review Article
Authoritative synthesis of an established weather or atmospheric-science topic.
Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
Reproducible evidence synthesis using a documented search and analysis method.
Methods Article
Validated instruments, forecasting methods, models, algorithms or analytical workflows.
Data/Resource Article
Well-documented datasets, observing networks, reanalyses, software or community resources.
Short Communication
Concise, complete findings of immediate scientific relevance.
Case Study
Rigorous analysis of a specific weather event, forecasting episode or location, with conclusions limited to the supporting evidence.
Editorials, Perspectives and Commentaries are invitation-only.

How submissions are handled
The terms below are the same for every submission, at every time of year.
Review
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Decisions
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.
Open access
Articles appear under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license, and authors retain copyright.
Charges
The article processing charge is USD 1,800, payable after acceptance. There is no submission fee. Full terms are on the Article Processing Charges page.

Collections
Beyond regular submissions, the journal welcomes proposals for focused collections.
Researchers with relevant expertise are invited to propose a special issue on a question that would benefit from being read as a body of work. What a proposal contains, and the safeguards that apply, are on Special Issues.
