Betrayal Trauma
Betrayal trauma is the emotional distress caused by betrayal of a close relationship. It can be experienced when a relationship partner is unfaithful, abusive, manipulative, or deceptive. Symptoms of betrayal trauma can include depression, anxiety, anger, emotional numbness, and difficulty trusting others. Betrayal trauma can have serious long-term emotional and psychological effects on individuals, and those experiencing it may need to seek professional help. In addition to its psychological effects, betrayal trauma can also have implications for physical health. Research suggests that it can lead to a weakened immune system and increased vulnerability to physical and mental illnesses. Recognizing and treating betrayal trauma is an essential part of restoring mental health and creating healthier relationships.
