Corns
A corn is a thickened area of skin, commonly found on the toes, the palms of the hands, or the soles of the feet. It is caused by friction or pressure and is characterized by an accumulation of dead skin cells. As a corns is an area of increased pressure, it has the potential to cause pain and discomfort, as well as potential damage to the skin. The treatment for corns is typically to remove the area of dead skin with a pumice stone or other similar object, reducing the area of dead skin and the friction in the area. In more extreme cases, a doctor may recommend surgery in order to help prevent further damage to the skin.
