Thoracic Trauma
Thoracic trauma refers to any injury to the chest wall, organs of the chest cavity, or the lungs. It is usually caused by traumatic events such as motor vehicle accidents, falls, and blasts. If not treated promptly, thoracic trauma can lead to numerous respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurologic complications. It is the leading cause of mortality from traumatic injury, and appropriate diagnosis and management is essential for good outcomes. Treatment options may include surgical interventions, lifestyle modifications, medications, and physical and occupational therapy. With timely and appropriate treatment, thoracic trauma victims can often make a full recovery.
