Trauma-Induced Coagulopathy
Trauma-Induced Coagulopathy (TIC) is a serious medical condition in which the body’s ability to form blood clots is impaired, causing a high risk for bleeding. In certain cases, severe trauma may lead to TIC, which can be made worse by other medical problems, such as liver or kidney disease. Treatment for TIC includes administration of clotting factors, and/or other forms of resuscitation. Trauma-Induced Coagulopathy is a major cause of death in trauma patients, and early recognition is key to successful treatment. Early diagnosis of TIC, and prompt treatment, can help reduce the risk of death or organ damage associated with this condition.
