Dysmenorrhoea
Dysmenorrhoea, commonly known as painful periods, is a condition that causes severe pelvic pain and cramping in women during menstruation. It occurs due to the release of prostaglandins, which are hormones that trigger pain in the muscles of the uterus. Dysmenorrhoea affects up to 85% of women and can cause various symptoms such as lower back pain, nausea and headaches. Treatments for dysmenorrhoea include lifestyle changes, pain medications, hormone therapies and surgery. Making changes to diet and lifestyle, such as reducing stress, avoiding caffeine and getting regular exercise, can help reduce the severity of symptoms. Dysmenorrhoea can have a negative impact on quality of life, as it can affect physical and mental health. It is important to seek medical help if the symptoms are too severe or if pain medication is needed to manage the symptoms.
