Epithelium
Epithelium is a type of tissue found in many organs throughout the body. It is a sheet of cells that forms the outer surface of a body, covering and protecting internal organs and tissues, as well as performing various other specialized functions. Epithelium plays a crucial role in the functioning of many vital organs, such as the lungs, skin, digestive tract, and blood vessels. Its many functions include providing a barrier between the internal environment and the external environment, controlling the movement of substances into and out of the body, secreting different types of molecules, and protecting against bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens. By understanding epithelium, scientists are able to gain insights into the development and function of many organs and tissues and improve the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
