Urothelium
Urothelium is a specialized layer of cells in the urinary tract that serves as a protective barrier for the underlying tissues. It is composed of two layers of cells, the basal layer which contains specialized cells called uroepithelial cells and the superficial layer, which contains multi-layered cells called transitional cells. Urothelium helps to regulate urine flow, minimize the risk of infection, and prevent the absorption of toxins and other harmful substances. Urothelium can also be used as a diagnostic tool as it can indicate various diseases and conditions, such as bladder cancer and interstitial cystitis. Urothelium is an essential part of the body's urinary system and plays an important role in maintaining healthy bladder function.
