Commemoration
of the Centenary of the Battle of Beersheba The Battle of Beersheba, which took place on October 31, 1917, was a decisive engagement during World War I, in which the forces of the British Empire, led by the Australian Light Horse Brigade, captured the town of Beersheba, in Ottoman Palestine. The victory enabled the Allied forces to break the Turkish line and move on to Jerusalem. The centenary of the Battle of Beersheba was commemorated in 2017 and marks a significant event in Australia's military history.
