Functional Genomics
Functional genomics is the study of gene function, with the aim of understanding how genetic information is converted into a cell’s actual traits (phenotypes). In this way, it is used to gain insights into how genes interact with each other, the behavior of cells and tissues, and the regulation of gene expression. Functional genomics is used to understand diseases and develop better treatments, as well as to understand the evolution of species. It also plays an important role in biotechnology, providing an understanding of the genetic basis for complex traits that allow for the manipulation of genetic material for the production of desired products.
