Shotgun Sequencing

Shotgun sequencing is a type of high-throughput sequencing technology used to rapidly sequence DNA. In this method, a library of randomly fragmented DNA is sequenced and then assembled using a computer algorithm, allowing researchers to reconstruct the entire nucleotide sequence of the sample. Shotgun sequencing is a powerful tool used in a wide range of applications, including gene identification and functional genomics, variant and mutation detection, gene expression profiling, microbiome analysis, and forensic and ancient DNA studies. This technology has revolutionized genomic research and provides a rapid, cost-effective means to sequence DNA.
