Adrenal Cortex

The adrenal cortex is the outer layer of the adrenal gland located on top of each kidney. It produces important hormones, such as cortisol and androgens, that are essential for the regulation of metabolism and other physiological processes in the body. Cortisol helps to regulate the stress and energy level of the body, while androgens are important for sexual and reproductive development. Additionally, the adrenal cortex produces small amounts of other hormones, such as aldosterone and DHEA, that play an important role in electrolyte balance, immune function, and bone health. This complex network of hormones produced by the adrenal cortex is necessary for homeostasis and normal body functioning.
