Electrolytes

Electrolytes are molecules that dissociate into ions in solution, creating an electrically-conductive medium. They play a key role in maintaining a balanced body environment, as they control the amount of water and pH levels in the body. They are essential for regulating numerous bodily functions, such as muscle contractions, nerve transmission, and cell hydration. Electrolyte deficiencies or imbalances can cause dehydration, muscle cramps, and irregular heartbeat. Electrolytes can be replenished by drinking fluids and eating foods that contain electrolytes, such as coconut water, bananas, and sports drinks.
