Glomeruli
Glomeruli are small, specialized structures within the kidney that are responsible for filtering wastes, excess fluid, and other substances from the blood. They are made up of tiny clusters of tiny capillaries known as glomerular capillaries. The filtered blood then enters the renal tubules, which remove specific materials from the blood, such as proteins, glucose, and minerals. Glomeruli are essential for maintaining proper kidney function, and their dysfunction can lead to a range of kidney-related disorders, such as glomerulonephritis and nephrotic syndrome. Glomeruli also play a role in maintaining proper blood pressure and electrolyte balance in the body. Treatment of kidney-related disorders generally involves medications, lifestyle changes, and possibly dialysis or transplantation. Therefore, glomeruli are an important component of kidney health and function.
