Nephrology is a medical specialty that focuses on the kidneys and the diseases, disorders, and processes associated with them. It is the study of the structure and function of the kidneys, and the diagnosis and treatment of kidney diseases. Nephrologists, or kidney specialists, are involved in a wide range of activities, including diagnosing and treating kidney diseases, providing advice and oversight on preventive medical care and monitoring patients undergoing dialysis or kidney transplantation. Nephrology has a significant impact on patient health and quality of life, and its importance is increasing as the global incidence and prevalence of kidney disease continues to rise.
