Biomarkers
Biomarkers are biological molecules or characteristics used to measure and evaluate the health of an organism. They can be found in various biological fluids, tissues, or cells, and can reveal important insights about an individual’s health. Examples of biomarkers include hormones, proteins, lipids, genetic material, and even certain behaviors. They are used in research and clinical settings to diagnose, monitor, and prognose diseases and disorders, as well as measure the success of treatments. By providing a better understanding of the underlying pathology of a disease, biomarkers help inform medical decisions and can lead to improved therapies, which ultimately improve patient outcomes.
