Biophysics Biomacromolecule-ligand Interactions
Biophysics biomacromolecule-ligand interactions are fundamental for understanding the complexity of living systems. These interactions involve the study of physical forces, such as electrostatics, hydrophobicity, van der Waals forces, and hydrophobic interactions, between one or more biomacromolecules and a small ligand, such as an ion, a drug, or a metabolite. Research in this area provides insights into the mechanism of action of drugs, the regulation of metabolic pathways, and the understanding of the physical and biochemical basis for cellular behavior. Furthermore, the study of biomacromolecule-ligand interactions has enabled the development of diagnostic tools and targeted therapies, as well as new insights into disease mechanisms, and can be used in the design of tailor-made peptide/protein drugs or in natural product-based approaches.
