Catabolism

Catabolism is the process by which living things break down large molecules to generate energy. During catabolism, molecules such as proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids are broken down into simpler molecules, like amino acids, simple sugars, and fatty acids. This process is essential for life and allows organisms to produce energy from their food. Catabolism is also necessary for the removal of damaged or excess cellular components. The energy generated from catabolism is used for essential processes like respiration, growth, and movement.
