Cell Death
Cell death is the process by which a cell stops functioning, leading to its demise. It can be either an intentional or an unintentional event. Cell death plays an important role in normal biological processes such as growth, development, and homeostasis. It also has implications in many diseases such as cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, and even aging. Cell death can be classified into two main forms: apoptosis and necrosis. Apoptosis is a programmed process that is essential for normal development and tissue homeostasis while necrosis is an uncontrolled, accidental form of cell death. Understanding cell death mechanisms has enabled us to better understand disease pathology and develop treatments which target the cell death process.
