Chimeric Genes

Chimeric genes are a type of artificial gene formed by combining two or more genes into a single gene. This is a useful tool for genetic engineers who are able to design new gene combinations to create new and unique proteins or to modify the function of existing proteins. This technology can be used to develop new treatments for diseases, increase crop yields and create renewable energy sources. Chimeric genes may also be important in understanding how to engineer genes to reduce or eliminate genetic disorders and cancer.
