Developmental Biology Cell Differentiation
Cell differentiation is an essential process in the development of all living organisms. It is the change of a cell from a generic state to a specialized cell type. This process is required for proper embryonic development, tissue homeostasis and to maintain the balance of an organism’s organs and systems. Differentiation is also important in the ability to regenerate damaged tissue. By understanding the cellular pathways that control cell differentiation, we can gain insight into the development of diseases, such as cancer, and develop therapies to treat them.
