Glucose Tolerance
test Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT) is an important diagnostic tool used to evaluate how a person's body responds to ingested glucose and is useful in diagnosing conditions such as diabetes, gestational diabetes and certain endocrine disorders. The test involves consuming a sweet drink containing a measured amount of glucose and then measuring the levels of glucose in a person's blood at intervals of 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours and sometimes 3 hours thereafter. The values of these measurements are used to detect if the body is able to properly metabolize glucose and indicate to healthcare professionals the presence of any medical issues related to impaired glucose metabolism.
