Metabolomics

Metabolomics is the comprehensive analysis of small molecules or metabolites in a biological sample. It is used to study the chemical fingerprints of cells, tissues, and organisms and to produce an in-depth understanding of their metabolic pathways and functions. Metabolomics can be used to identify biomarkers in cancer, diabetes, and other diseases as well as to characterize and investigate the metabolic effects of drugs, other treatments, and dietary interventions. By studying the metabolites, researchers hope to improve diagnostic techniques and advance basic understanding of biology.
