Micrornas

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small, non-coding, single-stranded RNA molecules that are involved in post-transcriptional gene regulation. They regulate the expression of genes by directly binding to 3’ untranslated regions (UTRs) of target messenger RNAs. This binding results in either enhancing or inhibiting the expression of genes. Recent studies have shown that miRNAs play a major role in regulating normal cellular functions, as well as in the development of diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and Alzheimer's. In addition, miRNAs are being studied as potential therapeutic targets for various diseases. Thus, by further understanding the role of miRNAs, it could have significant implications in improving our understanding of disease etiology and developing therapeutics.
