Molecular Orbitals
Molecular orbitals are mathematical functions which describe the wave-like behavior of electrons within a molecule. They are derived from the combination of the atomic orbitals of the individual atoms in the molecule and are used to predict the molecular structure, as well as the chemical, physical, and spectroscopic properties of the molecule. They provide a way to understand and predict the properties of many molecules, including reactions and interactions between molecules. Molecular orbitals are an important tool in chemistry, physics, and materials science, as they are used to provide insight into the workings of various chemical, physical and biological processes.
