Phagocytes
Phagocytes are specialized white blood cells that play an important role in the body's immune system. They are responsible for engulfing and digesting invading pathogens, microbes and other foreign particles, such as dead cells or debris. Phagocytes also produce substances called cytokines that help to recruit other immune cells and create a strong immune response to fight the infection. As a result, they are essential for protecting us from disease and maintaining health. Phagocytes have many practical applications in biomedical research, drug delivery and immunotherapy.
