Retroviruses
Retroviruses are a class of viruses that contain RNA instead of DNA as their genetic material. This feature makes them significant as they can insert their genetic material into the cells of their hosts and eventually cause the cells to produce more of the virus. As a result, retroviruses are essential for many medical, research and industrial applications. For example, retroviruses are used to improve crop yields, create experimental animal models, and provide gene therapy treatments. Furthermore, retroviruses can even be used to create gene-editing tools (e.g. CRISPR) to edit genomes. In summary, retroviruses are a critical component in medical and agricultural applications that have the potential to improve human lives.
