Taxonomy
Taxonomy is the science of identifying, classifying, and naming organisms (living things) based on shared characteristics. It is used to group organisms together according to their shared characteristics and evolutionary relationships. Taxonomy helps us to understand the diversity of life, including the relationships between organisms that are of great scientific and practical importance. For example, taxonomy is used to identify and classify new species of animals and plants, allowing us to better understand and preserve biodiversity. Taxonomy is also used in the medical field to identify pathogens, and in biomedical research to identify genes that can be used as targets for drugs and other therapies. Taxonomy is therefore a critical tool for understanding and preserving biodiversity and improving human health.
