Transferases

Transferases are a group of enzymes that transfer small molecules (such as phosphate groups) from one molecule to another. They are essential in a wide variety of metabolic processes, including the breakdown of glucose, lipids, nucleic acids, and proteins. For example, transferases aid in DNA replication and transcription by transferring phosphate groups to nucleic acids. They are also involved in cell signaling, cell growth and development, and metabolism of hormones and neurotransmitters. Transferases have been used in biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries to create new drugs and to analyze the structure and function of proteins. They are important tools in our understanding of how the body works and are used in the diagnosis and treatment of many diseases.
