Transmembrane Signaling
Transmembrane signaling is a process used by cells to communicate with each other. It involves the exchange of information between cells using special proteins that span the cellular membrane. By doing so, cells can send and receive signals from their environment and other cells, allowing them to respond to changes in their environment and coordinate with neighboring cells. Transmembrane signaling is essential for normal development, homeostasis and survival of organisms, as well as for many cellular processes like cell division, motility, and metabolism. Transmembrane signaling is also a key component in the regulation of gene expression and the control of cell fate decisions. This makes it an incredibly important process, as it is involved in a wide variety of biological processes.
