Zinc Finger Domain
Zinc finger domains are specialized, protein-binding sequences of amino acids found in numerous eukaryotic proteins. They are composed of a variable number of alternating, regularly spaced cysteine and histidine amino acids associated with zinc atoms, which confer them with the ability to bind to specific DNA or RNA sequences. Zinc Finger Domains are significant in many areas of biotechnology such as gene editing, gene regulation, and therapeutic protein design, allowing scientists to manipulate gene expression and target specific genetic conditions.
