Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation
Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is an important medical procedure used for treating a range of serious illnesses such as leukemia, lymphoma, sickle cell anemia, and multiple myeloma. During HSCT, a patient’s own hematopoietic stem cells, which are found in the bone marrow, are collected and transplanted back into the patient either from their own body (autologous HSCT) or from a donor (allogeneic HSCT). Through this procedure, the patient is able to successfully receive the treatment, often with a much better chance of long term remission or cure. The procedure has enabled thousands of individuals to receive effective treatment for their illnesses.
