Sensitization in Transplantation

Sensitization in transplantation is the phenomenon of tissue rejection due to an increased antibody response produced by the immune system in response to a transplant. This phenomenon occurs when the body has been exposed to a foreign antigen in previous transplantation. The body then produces a higher number of antibodies, which can lead to tissue rejection when a new transplant is attempted. Sensitization in transplantation is important for understanding the immunological functioning in transplant recipients and improving the success rate of transplantations. It is necessary for medical professionals to be aware of the presence of antibodies in a potential transplant recipient before attempting a transplant in order to reduce the risk of transplant rejection.
