Diphtheria
Diphtheria is an infectious disease caused by the bacteria Corynebacterium diphtheriae. It primarily affects the respiratory system, but can also affect the skin, heart, and nervous system. Diphtheria can cause respiratory failure and can be life-threatening if not treated promptly. It is most common in the developing world, but is becoming increasingly rare in the developed world due to the availability of vaccines. Vaccination is the most effective way of protecting against diphtheria, and it is included in the routine immunization schedule for children in many countries. The World Health Organization recommends that all people should have access to this life-saving vaccine.
