Esophagectomy
Esophagectomy is a surgical procedure used to remove the esophagus, a portion of the digestive tract that connects the mouth to the stomach. This surgery is often necessary to treat cancer of the esophagus, as well as complications from gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or achalasia. If the esophagus is too damaged or diseased to be treated with other treatments, an esophagectomy may be required. Esophagectomy is a complex procedure and carries a significant risk of complications. Despite this, it can also be lifesaving, providing patients with a chance to beat their cancer and regain their quality of life.
