Rhinitis

Rhinitis is an inflammation of the mucous membranes found in the nose which leads to a runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, itchy eyes and nose, as well as postnasal drip. It is a very common medical condition that affects the quality of life of many people. Depending on the cause of the rhinitis, the condition may be temporary or chronic. Causes of rhinitis vary and include allergies, environmental factors such as smoke, colds or viruses, medications or pre-existing medical conditions. Treatment of rhinitis depends on the cause and may include medications, allergen avoidance, decongestant nasal sprays, and immunotherapy. In some cases, lifestyle adjustments such as improving one’s diet and hygiene can also help reduce symptoms.
