Streptococcal Pharyngitis

Streptococcal pharyngitis, commonly known as “strep throat”, is an infection caused by the bacteria Streptococcus pyogenes. It is highly contagious and spread through respiratory secretions and direct contact with an infected person. Symptoms of strep throat include sore throat, fever, and swollen lymph nodes, and can lead to serious complications if left untreated. Treatment typically involves antibiotics, since the illness is caused by bacteria. Strep throat is a very common infection, especially in children, and can have a significant impact on school and work attendance. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential to reduce the risk of complications and the spread of the infection.
