Oxygen-binding Proteins
Oxygen-binding proteins, also known as hemeproteins, are biomolecules that bind and transport oxygen in cells. They play a critical role in respiration, providing the fundamental element of cellular metabolism, and can be found in many organisms from bacteria to mammals. Oxygen-binding proteins have a variety of uses in modern medical and environmental applications, such as in artificial organs, oxygen therapy, and wastewater treatment. Oxygen-binding proteins are also studied for therapeutic and drug development purposes. Understanding the structure and functionality of these proteins is important for furthering its uses in improving human health and the environment.
