Diabetes
Diabetes is a chronic medical condition in which the body’s ability to produce or respond to the hormone insulin is impaired, resulting in abnormally high levels of sugar in the blood. Diabetes is a leading cause of heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney failure and lower limb amputation. It is largely preventable, managed through diet, regular physical activity and medications when needed. Early diagnosis and treatment significantly reduces the risk of serious health complications. Effective management of diabetes can help to reduce the risk of complications, and improve the quality of life for people with diabetes.
