Integrative and Comparative Biology
Integrative and Comparative Biology (ICB) is an interdisciplinary field of science that combines diverse aspects of biological and medical research. The aim of ICB is to gain a better understanding of the functioning of biological systems at the whole organism level and to compare them, both at the molecular and cellular levels, to other organisms and across different species. ICB provides insights to the underlying mechanisms which shape and maintain diversity of life forms, their behavior and interactions in the environment. Its applications can be found in biomedical research, evolutionary studies, environmental conservation, and biotechnology. ICB is a key field of research with respect to understanding how humans can live in harmony with the natural environment.
