Mineralogy
Mineralogy is the scientific study of minerals - naturally occurring chemical compounds found in rocks and other geological materials. It seeks to identify, classify, and describe the individual characteristics of minerals based on their physical, optical, and chemical properties. Mineralogy is a useful tool for geologists because it helps them to interpret the earth's composition, its structure, formation, and history. Minerals are also responsible for a variety of useful and essential products, including construction materials, fertilizer, and oil. By studying the mineralogy of a given area, we can identify potential deposits and be better informed regarding the potential for exploration and production in the future.
