Paleoecology

Paleoecology is the scientific study of ancient ecological structures and processes. It combines a variety of disciplines, such as paleontology, sedimentology, and geochronology, to reconstruct the ecosystems of the past. Paleoecological data can provide insights that help us understand the origin and evolution of past species, the interactions between species, and the effects of past climate shifts on biodiversity. Paleoecology can also help us anticipate how future climate changes and human impacts might affect species distributions and the structure of future ecosystems.
