Onions

Onions (Allium cepa) are an edible bulbous plant in the family Amaryllidaceae. They are a widely-used culinary ingredient worldwide and have been a part of diets for thousands of years. Onions possess a number of health benefits such as providing antioxidants, acting as an anti-inflammatory agent, reducing cholesterol and improving immunity to name a few. Onion also contains several essential vitamins and minerals such as vitamin C, potassium and folate. Furthermore, onions exhibit antibacterial and antifungal properties, making them a useful tool in the treatment of infections. In addition, onions can be used topically to reduce swelling, itchiness and pain due to their anti-inflammatory properties.
