Suspension Cultures

Suspension cultures are a type of in vitro cellular system that consists of a large population of single cells or undifferentiated cell aggregates suspended in a liquid growth medium. The cells remain afloat in the medium where they are continuously supplied with nutrients and oxygen. Suspension cultures are important tools in cell biology and related fields, such as biotechnology and medicine. They are used to study cell growth, gene expression, and cell-cell interactions as well as to produce cultures of cells for research and, in some cases, for therapy. Additionally, suspension cultures are being developed for industrial, agricultural, and environmental purposes, such as aquaculture, bioremediation, and fermentation.
