Antiretrovirals

Preventive Medicine and Care Preventive medicine and care refers to the proactive measures we take to stay healthy and prevent the onset of illness and disease. These measures can include everything from exercise and healthy eating to vaccinations and regular checkups with healthcare professionals. Preventive medicine is especially important as we age, as many serious health conditions begin to manifest later in life. By taking steps to prevent disease and illness, we can enjoy greater overall health and well-being and avoid many of the complications that come with chronic conditions. One important aspect of preventive medicine is antiretrovirals. Antiretrovirals are medications used to treat and prevent HIV infection. These drugs work by blocking the replication of the virus in the body, preventing it from causing damage and progression to AIDS. By using antiretroviral therapy (ART), people living with HIV can maintain a good quality of life and may even be able to prevent passing the virus on to others. In addition, people who are at high risk of HIV infection can use pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to prevent infection before it occurs. Other preventive measures for maintaining good health include regular exercise, healthy eating, maintaining a healthy weight, getting enough sleep, managing stress, and quitting smoking. By taking these steps and working with healthcare professionals to stay up-to-date on necessary screenings and vaccinations, we can minimize our risk of developing serious health conditions later in life. By prioritizing prevention, we can enjoy a happier, healthier future.
