Chromatin and Transcription
Chromatin is a complex of DNA and proteins in a cell's nucleus that regulates the expression of genes. It is responsible for packaging the genetic material of a cell, which allows the chromosomes to fit into the nucleus and allows the cell to function properly. Through a combination of chemical modifications and remodeling, chromatin also plays an important role in the control of gene transcription, which is the process by which DNA is converted into messenger RNA (mRNA). Thus, chromatin plays a crucial role in gene expression and the production of proteins. Studies have revealed that malfunctions or changes in the chromatin can lead to diseases, such as cancer.
