Genetics and Genomics Gene Function
Genetics and genomics is the study of the structure and function of genes. It focuses on understanding how genes control the growth and development of an organism and contribute to its traits and characteristics. Genomics is the study of the entire set of genetic material (the genome) of an organism while genetics refer to the study of individual genes and the heritable traits. Understanding gene function is important as it helps us to identify the role of individual genes in diseases and also to develop treatments, such as gene therapy. It is also significant as it enables us to identify how genetic variation contributes to differences among individuals. Therefore, genetics and genomics are vital for providing insights into the processes of life and for developing new treatments to improve human health.
