Overview
Therapy Breast radiation therapy is a form of cancer treatment used to destroy cancer cells, thus reducing the risk of recurrence. It is performed by targeting the area around a cancerous tumor with high energy radiation, typically after a lumpectomy. This technique can be used to treat both early-stage and late-stage breast cancer. Radiation therapy is equally effective in both women and men and its success rate is high if used in the early stages of breast cancer. The therapy may cause temporary side effects such as fatigue, skin irritation and changes in breast tissue, but these usually subside after treatment is completed. Breast radiation therapy can be a powerful tool in the fight against cancer and is an important treatment option that should be discussed with a healthcare professional.
